Warning in Hebrews - Do not drift

The book of Hebrews presents five stern warnings to the believer. These warnings get more and more severe as they appear.

1. Do not drift from God?s Word.

We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
Hebrews 2:1 (NIV)

Ships are normally anchored; tied securely to the shore, when not in use. This is to prevent them drifting away. To drift is to be moved, often unconsciously, away from the intended target.

It is so easy to be moved away from Christ by the current of the world. How often have Christians neglected prayer, study of the Word and fellowship with other Christians because of the pressures of living?

None of these things are normally abandoned on purpose. Unless we take concrete steps to daily examine ourselves we will one day wake up to find ourselves far away from the fellowship that God has provided for us in Christ Jesus.

Drifting from God is the path the tide of this world system will take you if you let your guard drop.
